CODAR Users Testify at Special U.S. Congressional Hearing
Members of the CODAR user community testified today at a special U.S. Congressional hearing on “How to Improve the Efficiency, Safety, and Security of Maritime Transportation: Better Use and Integration of Maritime Domain Awareness Data”.
Testimonials were provided by Ms. Lisa Hazard of Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Dr. Newell “Toby” Garfield of San Francisco State University, both of whom play key roles in the California state-wide SeaSonde observation network.
Both encouraged the Coast Guard to utilize and support ocean observation data generated from the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (U.S. IOOS), and gave special endorsement of the U.S. IOOS HF radar component and its effectiveness inside Coast Guard search and rescue SAROPS tool and aiding oil spill response efforts.
Written testimonials of Ms. Hazard and Dr. Garfield are available here as PDFs.
